Debbane Palace Museum

Exhibition Rooms

In 1902 Raphaël Youssef Debbané restored the palace by hiring Italian and French engineers that added two storeys consisting of several bedrooms which now are used as exhibitions rooms.

First Floor

This first floor has a large bay window which makes the house exceptionally light.

The stairs leading to the first floor are adjacent to the Matyar, which is the cage of the birds, that was a gift from Mr. Raphaël Debbané to his wife, Angele Portalis.

The bird cage overlooks the courtyard and at one point contained up to 100 canary birds; filling the palace with mesmerizing bird sounds.

The archways surrounding the wooden corridor are taller than the windows bays, keeping with the style of the house and allowing the sun’s rays to penetrate throughout the day.
